The Labour Court recommended that existing casual part-time staff at Power Supermarkets Limited’s Quinnsworth branch in Celbridge retain sick pay on a protected basis. New staff would join under the branch’s formal terms. The recommendation was dated 23 July 1996. Mandate said the company had withdrawn sick pay without consultation and sought restoration and compensation. The company said casual part-time staff were not covered by an agreement and the payments had continued because of an administrative error. The Court said the manner in which the company stopped payments was not conducive to good industrial relations, but recommended the company’s proposal.
