The Labour Court recommended that Munster Electronics Limited meet employee representatives and agree a selection procedure for the remaining redundancies, taking account of skills, expertise and seniority. The recommendation was signed on 25 July 1996. The dispute concerned seven redundancies among hourly paid staff at the company’s Listowel operation. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the company had committed to discussing how the redundancies would be selected, but instead selected seven workers after receiving 17 applications for voluntary redundancy. The company said it selected volunteers while considering the need to retain key skills.
