Labour Court stood by National Pen union recognition recommendation

In 1996, the Labour Court found no reason to change its earlier recommendation that National Pen Limited recognise the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union for Production Department members. The company said its Works Committee represented workers and cited its worldwide policy against union recognition. The union argued that the committee did not adequately represent staff and alleged that workers had experienced harassment by managers. The Court hearing was held in Dundalk on 10 July; the recommendation was signed on 17 July 1996.
