Labour Court recommends Killarney depot workers use new truck refuelling system

The Labour Court recommended that 39 workers at John A Wood Limited’s Killarney depot operate a new computerised truck refuelling system, in a recommendation signed on 3 July 1996. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union objected that the change was introduced without proper consultation. John A Wood Limited said the keyboard system would improve management information, free the dispatch clerk to serve customers and bring no cost savings. The Court said employees faced no financial loss and at most minor inconvenience. It also urged the company to implement and cooperate with proposals from an earlier Labour Court recommendation on introducing workplace changes.
