The Labour Court recommended that Michell (Ireland) Ltd pay workers arrears of the Phase 2 increase under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work by 31 December 1996. The recommendation was signed on 1 July 1996. The increase was 1.5% and was due from 13 October 1995. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union said the company had agreed the programme would remain unchanged after restructuring. Michell said accumulated losses meant it would pay the increase only from 11 May 1996, without backdating it.
