The Labour Court recommended that Irish Country Meats (Ballaghadereen) pay time-and-a-half for the first four hours of overtime and double time after that. Its recommendation, dated 1 July 1996, also set compassionate leave at two days for an immediate family death and one day's pay for the death of an uncle, aunt, grandfather or grandmother. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought pay parity with the Ballyhaunis plant, better overtime rates, pension and sick-pay schemes, and paid compassionate leave. The Court did not recommend the parity claim, but recommended implementing the second phase of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work from 1 February 1995. It considered pension and sick-pay issues inappropriate to pursue at that time.
