The Labour Court recommended that Showerings (Ireland) Limited adhere to its 1993 agreement with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union. The recommendation was signed on 1 July 1996. The company sought to move six workers from a two-shift cycle, with a 22% premium, to the agreed three-shift cycle, which carried a 26% premium. The unions argued that a separate seven-day shift arrangement had invalidated the agreement and sought negotiations over any loss of earnings. The Court said the agreement remained in place and should have been adhered to by the union.
