In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Tankfreight (Ireland) Limited’s revised discharge rates and a proposal giving drivers an opportunity to earn an additional £300 a year. The recommendation was dated 30 April 1996. The union sought a higher rate for using a 2.5-inch hose, saying drivers had made concessions to help secure a Texaco delivery contract and that allocated discharge times were insufficient. Tankfreight said it could not renegotiate its price to Texaco. The Court was not satisfied that the union’s claim could be sustained.
