Labour Court recommends reference for former Carl Scarpa Stores sales assistant

The Labour Court recommended that Carl Scarpa Stores give a former sales assistant a suitable reference after hearing conflicting evidence about her dismissal. It did not recommend compensation. The recommendation was signed on 29 April 1996. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union sought compensation and a reference, saying the dismissal had no valid reason. Carl Scarpa Stores said the worker had been warned about timekeeping and performance and was on a week-to-week contract. The Court said a new manager had been instructed to change shop operations, creating tensions, and noted there had been no complaint about the worker’s performance during the first six months of her employment.
