The Labour Court recommended that a Dublin Corporation shift foreman receive a £1,000 lump sum and a £2,000 annual allowance from 1 January 1996 for as long as he performed the role. The recommendation was signed on 19 April 1996. The Building And Allied Trades Union sought an increased shift premium and extra payment for the foreman's unusual shift pattern and duties, which included emergency call-outs at night. Dublin Corporation said the post's terms were known when he applied and that increasing the premium could prompt similar claims. The Court cited the unique nature of the post and recommended that the agreed rostered hours continue. The recommendations were in full and final settlement of the claim.
