The Labour Court recommended changes to Batchelors Limited’s arrangements for warehouse staff working at Christmas and Easter. The recommendation was signed on 11 April 1996. Christmas days worked could be taken during the following 12 months, with one person per shift allowed to take days in lieu on a week’s notice. The Court also recommended ending the requirement for the same people to work Good Friday and Easter Tuesday, and allowing the company to require up to six people at Easter or Christmas under a sequential roster. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union disputed the company’s right to require shutdown work. Batchelors cited customer demand and the need to maintain deliveries.
