The Labour Court recommended that Kildare County Council’s proposed fire station rosters be accepted and implemented. The recommendation was signed on 4 April 1996. It covered stations in Naas, Newbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth, Athy and Monasterevin. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union raised concerns about firefighter availability, response times and safety. Kildare County Council argued the rosters would provide a safe, adequate service and reduce overmanning. The Court noted that loss of earnings resulting from the changes was not before it for consideration.
