In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that Chubb Ireland Limited pay its service engineers £150 net a year for potential earnings lost after the bonus scheme ended. The recommendation was signed on 28 March 1996. The dispute, brought by the Technical Engineering And Electrical Union, concerned 22 service engineers in Dublin, Cork and Limerick. The issues included call forms, the proposed use of pagers, on-call payments, pay differentials and compensation after the bonus scheme was suspended. The Court recommended consultation on a new call form, acceptance of the company’s proposed pager system and further talks to agree an equitable on-call rate for Grade 1 engineers. It found no grounds to concede the pay-differential claim. For potential earnings lost after the bonus scheme ended, it recommended £150 net per year.
