In 1996, the Labour Court did not recommend a further pay increase for four mill operators at Tara Mines, concluding that they had been compensated under an earlier rationalisation agreement and that no further compensation was warranted. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a further 2.5% increase, saying the remaining workers had taken on extra responsibilities. Tara Mines said the agreement included a £2,000 lump sum for two-cycle shift workers and a 7.5% increase. The recommendation was signed on 13 March 1996.
