In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that a job-sharer at Trinity College Dublin should have the right to take up full-time employment when the other half of the role became vacant, subject to conditions in the job-sharing agreement. The recommendation was dated 11 March 1996. The dispute with Manufacturing Science Finance concerned how to interpret the agreement after the worker's job-sharing partner died. The College argued that the vacancy should be advertised internally and that the agreement did not give a job-sharer an automatic right to full-time work.
