The Labour Court recommended immediate meaningful discussions between Terenure Printers Limited, the Irish Print Union, the Graphical Print & Media Union and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over company cost reduction proposals. The talks were to be completed within four weeks of the recommendation, with Labour Relations Commission facilitation if needed. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 1996. The proposals would have changed shift hours and overtime rates for about 44 pressroom, bindery and dispatch workers. The Court said the parties had a significant credibility problem and warned that continued intransigence could have serious employment consequences.
