The Labour Court recommended that temporary nurses at St. Luke's Hospital be paid one week in arrears, after finding a 13-day delay unreasonable. Its recommendation was signed on 15 December 1995. The Psychiatric Nurses Association Of Ireland said nurses on three-month contracts could wait three weeks for their first pay and had no other source of income. The South Eastern Health Board said it had to verify hours to ensure accurate pay for its 5,500 employees. The Court recognised the need for accurate payments but said payroll procedures should not create hardship, particularly for temporary staff.
