In 1995, the Labour Court recommended a new contributory pension scheme for production staff at Vita Cortex, alongside £14,000 compensation in total for affected employees. The recommendation was signed on 4 December 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union opposed requiring workers to contribute 5% of wages or accept reduced benefits. Vita Cortex said it could fund £46,000 a year, while £80,000 would be needed by 2000 to maintain the existing scheme. The Court recommended the employees accept the proposed scheme and that the company fund £46,000, with workers’ contributions recalculated on that basis.
