Labour Court says Burger King dismissal method was unreasonable

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

In 1995, the Labour Court found that Burger King’s method of dismissing a worker in Waterford was unreasonable and recommended £250 in settlement of outstanding industrial relations matters, plus a suitable reference. The recommendation was signed on 1 December. The worker said she was handed a P45 without explanation when she sought her employment conditions. Burger King said she was within a six-month probation period, could not give a return-to-work date and the business had no option but to end her employment. The worker agreed to be bound by the Court’s recommendation.
