The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Aviation Authority recognise and negotiate with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on behalf of 12 simulator pilots employed at Dublin and Shannon airports. The recommendation was signed on 27 October 1995. The union argued the workers should have the same choice of representation as other staff and had originally been recruited into a category represented by SIPTU. The Authority said six unions already represented its 600 staff and argued another union could cause industrial relations problems. The Court cited the workers’ recruitment history in recommending recognition.
