In 1995, the Labour Court found the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Connaught Court Group (The Irish Business And Employers Confederation) for five paid uncertified sick leave days was not well founded. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 1995. The Court recommended that the parties agree guidelines for management’s discretion under the sick pay scheme, including a monitoring mechanism. The union said it was concerned about how management used its discretion over payment for the first three sick days. Connaught Court Group argued that its scheme compared favourably with others in its sector and opposed the claim.
