The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a claim to establish about 100 civilian clerical workers at the Department Of Defence as Civil Servants. The recommendation was dated 15 September 1995.
The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union argued the workers' duties were comparable to Civil Service grades and cited previous status concessions for other groups. The Department said civilians employed under the Defence Act were excluded from the Civil Service laws and reported directly to military officers.
The Court found there were insufficient grounds to warrant conceding the union's claim.
