The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a union claim for an incremental pay scale for a plant maintenance aide at the University Of Limerick. The recommendation was dated 14 September 1995.
Manufacturing Science Finance argued that the aide's pay had been set with regard to the non-craft nature of the work and that an incremental scale would take the rate into the craftsmen's scale. The union said the worker had taken on many of the duties of an unfilled technician post and that his responsibilities had increased.
The Court found the claim was cost-increasing and contrary to the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. It did not recommend conceding the union's claim.
