The Labour Court recommended that Adm Ringaskiddy’s offer on staffing and work practices be amended to include a one-off payment of 2% of current annual basic pay, with settlement by 31 August 1995, and that the amended offer be accepted. The recommendation, signed on 18 July 1995, also called for a joint committee to monitor the effects of revised staffing levels, particularly safety. Adm Ringaskiddy said competitive pressures and losses meant it needed lower costs and greater efficiency. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union opposed further staffing reductions, citing hardship and safety concerns.
