Labour Court recommends Henry O'Rourke Limited take back eight plant operators

The Labour Court recommended that Henry O'Rourke Limited take eight plant operators back into employment after a winter lay-off. Its recommendation in the dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union was signed on 13 July 1995. The workers had been laid off in October 1994 after working on the Drumsna by-pass near Carrick-on-Shannon. The union said they were not considered for jobs when the company recruited again. The Court found the company had acted unfairly by not offering the workers employment after the lay-off, which it said would have been normal practice, and recommended their immediate return.
