The Labour Court did not recommend payments to workers suspended during a dispute at Studio Eyewear Limited over assigning machine setters to general work. Its recommendation in the dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union was signed on 13 July 1995. Two setters were suspended after refusing the instructions, and the other setters were suspended after stopping work. The company later reinstated the workers pending the hearing. The Court said the company agreement allowed temporary transfers, including setters, and accepted its assurance that the transfers would not cause loss of earnings. The Court urged both sides to consider Labour Relations Commission advisory services to improve workplace relations.
