The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union agree to 400 proposed lay-offs at Delphi Packard Electric Ltd from 23 June 1995, while continuing a 41-hour week. The recommendation was signed on 30 May 1995. The Court also recommended a job-sharing scheme for about 800 employees, with 39 paid hours and two banked hours a week, to be agreed before 30 September and start on 1 October. It called for all employees to share in lay-offs to some extent by year-end. The recommendation retained last-in-first-out selection, subject to union agreement for keeping specific skills, and said Delphi Packard should pay redundancy terms to 41 employees on long lay-off. The Court also recommended discussions about part-time workers and an immediate meeting for employees to vote.
