Labour Court recommends two years' car-parking compensation in Marks and Spencer dispute

The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Marks and Spencer's offer, subject to increasing car-parking compensation from one year's compensation to two years'. The dispute also concerned early morning supplements after changes to work start times at the Mary Street store; the parties had already reached agreement on overtime compensation. The union sought to protect the early morning supplement and compensation for lost parking, arguing the change reduced workers' earnings and benefits. Marks and Spencer said its offer was generally reasonable and opposed continuing the supplement for hours workers would no longer work. The recommendation was signed on 21 April 1995.
