In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Pretty Polly pay employees a sum equivalent to three days’ Social Welfare benefit after a dispute over short-time working. The recommendation was signed on 6 April 1995. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought pay support for workers affected by short-time working, which Pretty Polly said was necessary because sales had not reached planned levels. The Court said its recommendation applied only in the unusual circumstances of the case and noted the parties’ agreement on revised annual leave arrangements.
