Labour Court recommends £200 increase to Lakeland Dairies workers’ lump sums

In 1995, the Labour Court recommended increasing the lump sums for three workers at Lakeland Dairies Co-Operative Society Limited’s Longford store by £200 per person, as a way to resolve a dispute over Saturday work. The Court signed its recommendation on 7 March 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a Saturday premium for the workers on a five-over-six-day schedule, while the society argued Saturday work was part of the normal week in the industry. The Court did not consider a premium appropriate, but recommended the lump-sum increase.
