In 1994, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of a union claim for improved pay and conditions for about 100 operators at Avondale Chemical Company. The recommendation was signed on 30 December 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said operators had taken on extra duties and responsibilities, including after the introduction of a new plant. The Court concluded that conceding the claim would breach the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
