Labour Court recommends permanent posts for seven Shannon tourist advisers

In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Shannon Free Airport Development Company appoint seven long-serving full-time contract employees to permanent positions, subject to Department of Finance approval. The recommendation was signed on 21 November 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought seven permanent posts, arguing that the workers lacked benefits available to permanent colleagues. The company cited a recruitment embargo and the seasonal nature of tourism. The Court recommended local talks on how the workers would move onto the permanent pay scale.
