The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Aer Rianta’s proposed roster changes for Airport Police Fire Service staff at Cork Airport. The recommendation was signed on 3 November 1994. The change would move the early shift start from 7am to 6am to serve an earlier Cork-Dublin flight, with finishing times also moved an hour earlier. The union said the change breached the roster agreement and sought overtime or a night-duty arrangement. Aer Rianta said staffing had to match flight schedules and the change would not increase working hours. The Court said the company had an obligation to change rosters to meet customers’ requirements. Aer Rianta argued that continued overtime cost £120,000 a year and Cork Airport had an annual operating deficit of £500,000.
