The Labour Court recommended further local talks between Abs Pumps and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on a sick-pay scheme for the company’s craft section. The talks were expected to conclude by 31 December 1994. The recommendation was signed on 1 November 1994. The union sought a scheme providing full income for 13 weeks and half pay for a further 13 weeks. The company said costs and other implications meant it could not progress the claim without wider discussions about work practices. The Court said the talks should examine the enterprise’s capacity to absorb the costs and whether new work practices could reduce their impact.
