In 1994, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for higher pay or a bonus scheme for warehouse staff at Fruit Of The Loom International Limited. The recommendation was signed on 11 October 1994. The union said the new carousel system had increased warehouse throughput by about 33% and that staff were paid less than comparable workers. Fruit of the Loom argued that higher throughput did not show increased individual productivity and said its investment in modern equipment had made the work easier. The Court urged local discussions on a bonus scheme for the warehouse.
