In 1994, the Labour Court recommended against claims by Manufacturing Science Finance for improvements to the Greencore Group Staff Pension Scheme and an extension of the contribution holiday from three years to six. The Court found the proposed pension improvements would increase costs under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and that the trustees acted within the pension plan’s terms when they agreed the second contribution holiday. The union sought changes including preserved benefits for service before 1991 and the removal of the claw-back. Greencore Group argued that the requested changes would increase costs. The recommendation was signed on 10 August 1994, and the Court did not recommend conceding the claims.
