In 1994, the Labour Court did not recommend granting Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's claims for higher pay and unsocial-hours and Sunday payments for 30 cash processors at Securicor (Ireland) Limited. The recommendation was signed on 5 August 1994. The union sought an hourly rate of £4.26 and a weekly £16 Sunday and unsocial-hours allowance, saying the workers were among the company's lowest paid and worked permanent night shifts. Securicor argued the claims were cost-increasing and covered by the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. The Court accepted the company's contention and did not recommend the claims be conceded.
