In 1994, the Labour Court recommended no special payment for introducing new cash registers at Penneys Limited's Mary Street Store. It also found no grounds to recommend Mandate's requested central discussions on technology. The recommendation was signed on 3 June 1994. The Court said the registers would not significantly increase operators' workload or responsibility. It considered the annual productivity bonus and the store's trading position, which had already led to redundancies. Mandate had raised concerns about staffing, health and safety, credit-card validation and productivity.
