In 1994, the Labour Court recommended changes to Woco Industrial Components Limited’s survival plan after considering the company’s financial difficulties and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s concerns about production targets, sick pay, leave, pay and rejects. The recommendation was signed on 24 May 1994. The Court recommended an urgent joint review of production targets, with the company’s proposed targets trialled while the review took place. It said the sick-pay scheme should not be used to carry out management functions, and recommended annual leave be taken in the current leave year, with carry-over where company requirements prevented this. It also recommended deferring the first phase of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work pending a September 1994 business review, and that both sides take steps to reduce rejects.
