The Labour Court recommended that both Quality Plastics Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the company’s sick-pay proposals, amended to provide £25 for the first single-day absence, £20 for the second, £15 for the third, and £10 for each of the fourth and fifth. The recommendation was signed on 9 May 1994. Quality Plastics had withdrawn its sick-pay scheme on 1 January 1993 after citing abuse and later proposed a replacement scheme and an attendance bonus. The union said the replacement scheme was inadequate.
