The Labour Court said it could not recommend in favour of the Bakery and Food Workers’ Amalgamated Union’s claim for enhanced redundancy terms for five workers at The Peoples Bakery. The bakery had introduced redundancies after a downturn in business and continuing losses, offering statutory redundancy terms. The union argued that the workers’ contribution, increased productivity and long service supported enhanced payments. The recommendation was signed on 6 May 1994.
