In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Woodfab Limited pay no compensation for lost overtime and did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's P.E.S.P. claim. The recommendation was signed on 7 March 1994. The dispute followed the company's return to a 39-hour week in October 1992, ending three hours of regular overtime. The union sought compensation and additional pay under the P.E.S.P.; the company cited losses and reduced tonnage, while saying overtime could still be worked when required. The Court considered the overtime change prudent and necessary to protect the business and workers' employment. The company had also said its twilight shift ended, with 18 job losses.
