In 1993, the Labour Court recommended hourly calculation of annual leave for care workers in the Hospitaller Order Of St. John Of God's Community Residential Service, subject to the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 1993. The Order proposed translating 20 days of leave into 156 hours, with leave counted by rostered hours due on each day. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union opposed the change and sought protection or restoration for workers who had lost leave. The Court found unilateral imposition of the circular was not conducive to good industrial relations.
