In 1993, the Labour Court found Packard Electric Ireland Limited had not breached its agreement with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union over harness work produced in Portugal. The unions argued work for Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port facility should have been programmed in Dublin while the company was seeking redundancies. Packard said it lacked capacity and had not subcontracted work it controlled. The Court did not recommend compensation and urged the parties to discuss how to handle future work orders.
