In 1993, the Labour Court recommended an annual £2,500 allowance for a Teagasc technician after finding merit in a union claim for upgrading. The recommendation was dated 25 June. The Manufacturing Science And Finance Union sought promotion to Senior Research Officer, saying the worker had been recommended for promotion before a government promotions embargo and that transferees had been guaranteed their existing conditions. Teagasc said he lacked the honours degree required for the grade. The Court did not recommend promotion, but recommended the allowance on top of his existing scale from 1 June 1991, strictly on a red-circle basis.
