In 1993, the Labour Court rejected a maintenance supervisor’s claim for improved pay and conditions at Regional Technical College Cork. The worker said his responsibilities had grown as the college expanded and sought conditions comparable with similar jobs, including in health boards. The Department of Education argued the roles were not comparable and that his duties had not changed. The Court recommended that the parties discuss the worker’s duties and reporting and administrative procedures to help the college run efficiently and ensure they were clearly understood. Its recommendation was dated 29 April 1993.
