Labour Court recommends union recognition at Royal Dublin Hotel

In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Ampleforth Limited, trading as Royal Dublin Hotel, recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and use normal workplace procedures to progress the union's claims. The recommendation was dated 26 March 1993. The union sought talks on pay, hours, rosters, public-holiday pay, Sunday rates and facilities for house assistants, saying management had refused negotiations since 1989. The company preferred dealing directly with staff and said pay and conditions compared favourably with other hotels. The Court warned that a lack of procedures could lead to hostility and mutual distrust between unionised staff and management.
