In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Semperit (Ireland) Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept revised terms for a reorganisation of Semperit Sales Limited, including a further £1,200 for each individual amount in the earlier proposal. The company planned to relocate sales operations and contract out warehousing and distribution, putting six warehouse and driver roles at risk through redundancy or redeployment. The union sought to retain the workers in their jobs at the new location; the company said the reorganisation followed corporate strategy and it had tried to minimise its effects. The Court considered the conciliation terms fair and reasonable in light of the changes sought by the company, but recommended the additional compensation because of the particular circumstances of the workers’ losses of earnings. The recommendation was signed on 22 March 1993.
