In 1993, the Labour Court recommended conceding the Psychiatric Nurses Association's claim for the 39-hour week to be implemented from 1 September 1990 at St Luke's Hospital. It did not recommend concession of the separate claim about excess hours on the night-duty roster, finding its basis invalid. The South Eastern Health Board said implementation depended on when agreement was reached. The association also sought overtime rates for additional compulsory hours; the Board argued that reducing working hours should not require overtime.
