In 1993, the Labour Court recommended accepting J.A. Mont Ireland Limited's proposals, with the unnamed supervisor to remain on existing pay, adjusted by normal increases, until 31 December 1993 and then receive £15,000 compensation. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had rejected a company offer increased to £12,000 and argued the worker accepted the salary offered for the day-work post. The company considered the retained shift premium anomalous and sought a buyout. The Court described the worker's position as unique and requiring a special solution, limited to this individual and not a precedent.
